My history with glass
The Pacific Northwest region, particularly Seattle and Tacoma, is one of the areas known for its many styles of glass artwork. At Bonnie Burns Glass, I have been using traditional methods to blow glass in-house since 1982. I’ve had my favorites throughout the years and have focused on them almost exclusively at times. That focus has earned me a reputation as the “candy cane lady” and also the “heart lady.”

Though I started out with a heavy emphasis on candy canes, I have been putting much of my time and energy into my Hearts of Hope for the Military most recently. These are hand-blown glass hearts that are big enough to hold all the messages of love that you want to pass around, but small enough to fit in the cargo pocket of a military uniform. In the last few years, I have given out hearts to deploying military units out of Ft. Lewis, McChord Air Force Base and Fort Meade, Maryland, and have had my hearts reach the White House. My goal is to get a heart to as many deployed members of our military as possible, whether they are in Iraq and Afghanistan or Korea - those who are far from home and family deserve to be shown a reminder of how much they are loved and cared about.

Through the years following, I have worked to refine my technique and create other items of beauty to enhance your home. On my website, you’ll find samples of glass blown vases, hearts, paperweights, etc. Through the years, my glass work and my sons have remained intertwined in my life:
